This job was based in Teignmouth, Devon. The customer wanted to convert the back portion of their garage into a downstairs toilet with wash basin. They also needed extra plug sockets and lighting adding along with some wiring adjustments for the boiler in the utility room adjacent to the garage.
Here are some before during and after images to show how the job progressed and also showing the finished article (click on the images to view them bigger):
Before
This is an image of the garage before we started. You can see a door to the back left that will need blocking up so the new toilet can go in that corner. A new door will then need to be cut out on the opposite side to access the utility.
New doorway
To start with we had to remove the old door and frame, then measure and cut out the new door on the opposite side.
Block up old doorway
Block up the old doorway using blocks removed from the new doorway.
Stud work and raised floor for new toilet
Wiring & Lighting
New plug sockets were added, two in the garage and one in the utility, using the existing ring. Power to the boiler control unit needed to be moved from the garage to the other side of the wall in the utility. Two new downlights were wired in for the toilet, one outside the toilet door and a PIR lighting sensor to control the re-positioned garage light.
Plumbing
Alter the plumbing where the pipes interfered with the new doorway and add a new radiator in the new toilet.
Plasterboard, skimming and painting
Fitting out the new downstairs WC
Fitted the new toilet and washbasin vanity unit along with an extractor fan that is triggered from the light switch.
Finished product!
Here is the finished article nicely decorated and ready for the customer to use.
